Today it is one week since our garden was full of the Manuka McClymont family! It seems so quiet after all the action on the day.
There were eighty three of us all milling around with name tags to identify the branch from which we descended. Under the house was an amazing array of photos (some in carved frames done by 'The Aunts' who lived their lives out at Manuka.) and various items of historic value. These included Uncle George's bayonet from the Boer War.
There was an extensive collection of war history photos and a record of service of family members. The family tree was displayed for everyone to check details. I could go on lots about these but hope to have photos to go with stories later.
Many discussions have been had since about what a wonderful chance it was for everyone to reconnect and meet new family. That certainly did happen! There was no doubt about the strong likenesses among the people who came together! Oh! and the stories did abound- both in the speeches made and just talking about memories.
Judith Treweeke spoke for the Robert McClymont branch, Tom McClymont for the Norman decendants, Mac McClymont from the Alexander lineage, Ron Walker and Judith Nisbet for Samuel McClymont's family and Julie Nash from Thomas's line. Everyone attention was easily caught with the arrival of Tom the Piper whose rendition of "Scotland the Brave" heralded the beginning of the speeches.
STAY POSTED FOR PICTURES THE FAMILY GROUPS AT THE REUNION AND COPIES OF SPEECHES MADE ABOUT EACH BRANCH PRESENT ON THE DAY.
Do you have any photos you took that you want to share? Email them to the gmail address and I will include them here. It would be good for the relations who expressed regret about missing out on the fun because they could not join us.
Lots of family have asked for a copy of the slide show of old family photos that was running on the day. It may be sometime before we have collected all the extra images that are still coming in. When this is complete we will send them out. Same goes for putting the finishing touches to the family tree. Need a little break......
Cheers! Penny.
